(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - It comes as Movement leaders gather in Tehran, Iran, for a Summit.
Fiji’s membership was approved at the 15th NAM Ministerial Meeting in Bali, Indonesia, in 2010.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola,is in Tehran for the 16th NAM Ministerial Meeting and the Leaders Summit from August 26 to 31. The meeting is attended by 42 heads of states and governments and 25 foreign ministers.
The meetings will discuss issues underlined in Sharm El Sheikh in May 2012 by the Ministerial meeting of the NAM Co-ordinating Bureau, particularly on issues pertaining to global and regional politics, development, social and human rights.
Speaking from Tehran yesterday, Ratu Inoke said Fiji’s participation was an indication of the importance Fiji placed on its membership and on the work of the Movement.
“It also exemplifies Government’s commitment towards Fiji’s Look North Policy and its endorsement of the fundamental principles of the Movement based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Ratu Inoke said.
He will also deliver Fiji’s national address on behalf of the Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, with an update on the progress in the Constitution-making process, the electronic voter registration and other reforms prior to the 2014 General Elections.
